Ivor Gurney
The Trumpet for chorus and orchestra: full score

Ivor Gurney composed many song settings of Edward Thomas, but only one choral setting: a rousing work composed in around 1921. Left in short (piano) score, the piece was evidently intended for larger forces, leading Gurney scholar Philip Lancaster to bring the work out of the archive and orchestrate it in 2008. Vocal score available separately. This full score includes an urtext transcription of the original manuscript accompaniment.

Gurney’s The Trumpet has been recorded in this orchestration by the City of London Choir and the London Mozart Players.
